Kirk Care's mission has a direct impact on helping children who badly need our services as families get back on their feet. Nearly 50% of the individuals we serve are children under 18 years old.
Many children of our clients receive free or reduced breakfast and/or lunch programs at their schools during the school year. Those meals go away when school is not in session. To assist in bridging the summer hunger gap, Kirk Care provides added kid-friendly food bags along with regular food we share with families over the summer months.
The cost of summer camp for children of our clients is often too high for their parents who are struggling to pay for basic needs like groceries, utility bills and medicine. Kirk Care financially supports the SPROG/HORIZONS National Youth Summer Education Program along with the Kirkwood School District. This program is a community-centered program proven to close opportunity and achievement gaps for low-income children. Children attending the summer camp receive reading, creative arts, crafts and fitness/nutrition activities. Tuition is free to those who qualify including breakfast, lunch and snacks over the summer months when schools are not is session. For more information contact your child's school. This is a K-5 program.
Kirk Care partners with the Kirkwood School District each August to help equip children with what they need to succeed in school. New grade level appropriate school supplies are collected and distributed by Kirk Care. Donor support is critical to make this drive successful.
